About Holistic Voice Lab

HVL was conceived in Rheinbeck, NY in 2012 and sprung up from metamorphosis. We are a community of singers of all levels. We believe humans have a birthright to sing, and that singing makes life way more fun! Holistic Voice Lab holds a firm belief that each voice is necessary and beautiful. We provide the tools to learn how to sing beautifully in our group and private lessons.

I will be your voice guide, coach, conductor and shoulder, if you need it. Singing can bring up strong emotions due to many of us having had our voices silenced.  

Why I Sing:

When I was a girl, I developed a love for music due to both of my parents being musical. My mother had a longing to be a singer, in fact, she was a singer. She just wasn't allowed to use her voice in public. I saw her struggle with her dream and her deliberate suppression of it. It was she who shared her voice lessons with me. We did a few recitals together when I was just six and seven years old. My father was untrained, but wrote a collection of songs that my mother helped him complete by adding chords on the piano. He was untrained but still wrote out the music himself. I didn't realize it then, but he was somewhat of a natural.

So, when I hit adolescence, I escaped into music. I took piano lessons and later studied folk guitar. I had a little plastic stereo and when I came home from school, I ran up to my room and played my records. I played guitar and sang with my favorite artists and taught myself many songs by ear.

I am grateful for those years of music lessons. I am grateful to my parents for introducing me to music, which has been the an essential tool for my personal transformation.

Music saved my life. Singing set me free.

Why I Teach:

I have long been a follower of my intuition. I have worked through so many battles within and without. I teach because I have been there. I have experienced it. I have earned my street cred. What's more, I have enormous stores of empathy. And, lastly, I wish for others to feel as free as I do when I sing.
